My late and great Uncle Fred is a legend. He was one of the best Captains and uncles to ever live. He and my Aunt Katie (the woman I was named after) lived in the sunny Florida Keys, and when I would visit we would wake up before the crack of dawn and enjoy a big hot bowl of oatmeal to fuel us for a full day of boating.
While we would eat our oatmeal together, he would tell me the same wild story behind the meaning of his one tattoo. Legend has it, a bird landed on him, so he hit it onto this shoulder, and it left a tattoo mark.. LOL.. good one, Uncle Fred! Man do I miss his cute antics..
Uncle Fred made the best oatmeal. He kept his pretty simple, adding only raisins, a dash of ground cinnamon, and a touch of maple syrup. I add a few more ingredients to the recipe below, as it’s a super adaptable. Feel free to make it your own!
