I discovered True Food Kitchen this past summer while on holiday visiting my sister in LA. We visited the location in Santa Monica and ordered the Teriyaki Quinoa Bowl and a Heirloom Tomato Pizza. These are some VEGAN OPTIONS I can work with! The Teriyaki Quinoa Bowl was a delightful combo of broccoli, heirloom carrot, bok ahoy, mushrooms, brown rice, avocado, and toasted sesame seeds. YUM. The Heirloom Tomato Pizza came equipped with grilled artichoke, roasted garlic, almond ricotta, and black truffle. HOLY HEAVEN. SO YUM. And might I add n u t r i t i o u s. We also ordered their Citrus Skinny Margarita, which was super refreshing and balanced. It was simply muddled citrus, mint, and cucumber topped with ixá organic tequila. I LOVE a good margarita.
It never crossed my mind that there would be another true food kitchen, let alone one located on the east coast near my home base. When I realized that there was a new True Food that had just opened at Mosaic District in Fairfax, VA I freaked. So exciting! It is Matt and my usual date night spot now. I just got dinner with my aunt there yesterday, no lie. I’ll also pick up carry out from time to time. Plus, my family loves the place too – going out to dinner with multiple food preferences just got easier!
Their menu is seasonal and they do a great job of merging nutrient-rich ingredients with a flavor-forward menu. Since their menu changes with the season, you are able to experience the delicious ingredients at the peak of their freshness – which is both cool and the way it really should be. Their bar and beverage selection is lovely as well. So many options to choose from.
Depending on my mood I may get a fresh-pressed vegetable juice, local beer, organic spirit, or red wine. As far as food goes, I usually get one of their vegan pizza options, bowl options, the TLT (a vegan take on a BLT – freaking DELICIOUS), soup, or the shiitake lettuce cups. Getting hungry…
Although the TFK menu isn’t 100% vegan, I can appreciate their thought out, delicious vegan options. And let’s be real… (unfortunately) most people I go out to dinner with don’t want to be “forced” into eating vegan anyway. I TRY. Anyway, in these circumstances, it’s a win, win.
